Frequently asked questions

Is Attrition free?

Yes. Attrition is free to play in your browser. There is nothing to download, no account to create and no purchases in the game.

What do I need to play?

A modern browser with WebGL (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) on a computer or a phone, and an internet connection: every match runs on the server.

How long is a match?

45 minutes. The commander with the most War Points at minute 45 wins, unless someone wins earlier. After the result you can keep playing in free play for up to 60 minutes.

How many players are in a match?

From 4 (Oceania) to 16 (World), depending on the scenario. Seats nobody takes are filled with bots.

Can I play alone?

Yes. Play against the AI on any scenario with four difficulties of bots: Cadet, Standard, Veteran and Elite. There is also a guided tutorial.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Create a private match and share its link; your friends join from the link and you fill the other seats with bots.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Phones get their own touch interface on the same map and the same matches, so phone and desktop players share every public table.

How do I win?

A rival starting capital you hold is worth 3 War Points and any other contested city 1. The leader at minute 45 wins; holding 80% of all points for 60 seconds wins early. See how to play.

How is it different from Risk or other war games?

Attrition is real-time, not turn-based, and you command individual units that move freely on the real world map: infantry, tanks, artillery, aircraft and fleets that counter each other. A match takes 45 minutes rather than days.

Which languages does it support?

English and Spanish.

What data does Attrition keep?

Your nickname, your emblem, a pseudonymous session and the history of your matches; no email or account. Read the privacy notice for details and data controls.

Who can play?

Attrition is meant for players aged 14 and over.
